Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles
In June 2021, Vertical Garden Solutions had the privilege of enhancing the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles with four distinct yet interconnected living walls.
This project involved the strategic placement and design of living walls to create a continuous green experience, merging functionality with aesthetic appeal. The installation comprised four living walls, two on each side, each measuring 6’ W x 8’ H. To ensure cleanliness and ease of maintenance, we integrated drain channels at the base of each wall. Each wall was connected to an irrigation system that the building had specially constructed for this purpose, demonstrating a collaborative approach to the project.
The living walls were composed of a carefully selected mix of plants, including Philodendron Scandens 'Brasil', Schefflera Arboricola, Dracaena Fragrans 'Lemon Lime', and Peperomia Caperata 'Rosso'. This selection was based on their adaptability to the local environment and their varying textures and shades of green, which contribute to a visually dynamic display.
The Outcome
Our design concept was to create a canvas that connected the individual living walls, allowing for a sense of continuity as residents and visitors navigate around the space. This arrangement not only enhances the visual appeal of the area but also promotes a sense of well-being and connectivity with nature. The sweeping arrangement of the plants creates a natural flow, guiding the eye along the walls and fostering a sense of cohesion within the space.
The installation transformed the space into a more welcoming and vibrant environment. It serves as a testament to our commitment to creating inspiring, beautiful, and functional living spaces. The living walls at the Housing Authority not only improve the aesthetic quality of the building but also contribute to the overall well-being of its residents, aligning with our mission to bring nature closer to people in urban settings.
