Freestanding Living Walls

Client need
A developer needed three freestanding living walls to elevate a model home side patio and create a premium lifestyle moment for prospective buyers. The planting area had more shade from surrounding structures, and the walls needed to integrate with the site landscape irrigation while still meeting the unique needs of a vertical garden system.
Our solution
We built three framed, freestanding living walls (each 3’ W x 4’ H; total 36 SF), paired with a shade-tolerant plant palette designed for a lush look in lower-light conditions. We tied irrigation into the site system while placing the living walls on their own dedicated station, critical for dialing in proper moisture cycles for vertical planting. To match the architecture, we installed weatherproofed 3” picture-style frames, stained to complement nearby trim and finishes. We also coordinated with the on-site maintenance team to hand off care guidance for long-term success.
The Outcome
A polished, high-end biophilic feature that instantly upgraded the patio experience and supported the sales story: indoor-outdoor living with living design. The walls photographed beautifully, softened hard edges in the space, and created a memorable “model home moment” that helped the property feel more curated and complete.
